The power moonroof in the Nissan Kicks adds light and fresh air to the cabin, but it must be operated with care. Before opening, closing, or tilting the moonroof, make sure the roof area is clear and that all passengers are seated safely inside the vehicle.

WARNING

  • In an accident, an occupant could be thrown from the Nissan Kicks through an open moonroof. Always wear seat belts correctly and make sure children are secured in proper child restraints.
  • Do not allow anyone to stand up, lean out, or extend any part of the body through the moonroof opening while the vehicle is moving or while the moonroof is closing.

CAUTION

  • Remove water drops, snow, ice, sand, leaves, or other debris from the moonroof area before opening it. This helps prevent noise, sticking, or damage to the mechanism.
  • Do not place heavy objects on the moonroof glass or on the surrounding roof area of the Nissan Kicks.

Automatic moonroof and sunshade

Nissan Kicks automatic power moonroof and sunshade switch

Sliding sunshade and moonroof

When the sunshade switch is pushed to the OPEN position 1, the sunshade begins to open.

If the sunshade starts opening from a position between fully closed and half open, it will stop at the half-open position. Push the switch again to open the sunshade completely.

When the moonroof switch is pushed to the OPEN position 3, the moonroof opens to the comfort mode position. If the sunshade is closed, the sunshade will open halfway first. Push the switch again to open the moonroof fully.

When the moonroof switch is pushed to the CLOSE position 4, the moonroof closes automatically. When the sunshade switch is pushed to the CLOSE position 2, the sunshade closes. If the sunshade begins closing from a position between fully open and half open, it will stop at the half-open position. Push the switch again to close it completely. However, if the moonroof is open or tilted upward, the sunshade will not close beyond the halfway position.

To stop the sunshade or moonroof while it is moving, push the moonroof switch to any OPEN 1, 3, CLOSE 2, 4, or UP 5 position.

Tilting the moonroof

To tilt the moonroof upward, push the moonroof switch to the UP position 5. To tilt the moonroof downward and close it, push the switch to the CLOSE position 4.

Comfort mode

Comfort mode is the recommended open position when driving the Nissan Kicks with the moonroof open. When the moonroof is fully open, wind noise may become noticeably loud, especially at higher speeds. Using the comfort mode position helps reduce wind turbulence and makes the cabin more comfortable.

Auto-reverse function

WARNING

There are small areas immediately before the fully closed position where detection may not occur. Before closing the moonroof or sunshade, make sure all passengers keep their hands, arms, fingers, and other body parts safely inside the Nissan Kicks.

The auto-reverse function allows the moonroof and sunshade to reverse automatically if an object is caught while they are closing.

When the control unit detects an obstacle, the moonroof and sunshade will open immediately to help reduce the chance of entrapment.

Depending on the environment or driving conditions, the auto-reverse function may also activate if the moonroof or sunshade experiences an impact, vibration, resistance, or load similar to an object being caught.

If the auto-reverse function activates repeatedly, or if the vehicle battery is discharged, the moonroof and sunshade may not close correctly. In this situation, push and hold the switch in the CLOSE position 4 to close the moonroof.

If the moonroof switch does not operate

If the Nissan Kicks moonroof and sunshade do not operate properly, perform the following procedure to initialize the operating system.

1. If the moonroof and sunshade are open, close them fully by repeatedly pushing the moonroof switch to the CLOSE 2 and 4 positions.

2. Push and hold the moonroof switch to the CLOSE 4 position for 10 seconds.

3. After the moonroof and sunshade move slightly toward the closed position and then move back a little, release the moonroof switch.

4. Push and hold the moonroof switch to the CLOSE 4 position. The glass panel and sunshade will begin moving.

5. Release the moonroof switch. The moonroof and sunshade will fully open and then fully close automatically.

6. Check that the moonroof switch now operates normally.

WARNING

The driver is always responsible for proper moonroof operation in the Nissan Kicks, including operation performed by passengers.

Failure to follow the warnings and instructions for correct moonroof use may result in serious injury or death.

  • Do not allow children to operate the moonroof. Improper operation by children can cause an accident. If a child or another passenger is caught in the moonroof, serious injury may occur.
  • To help reduce the risk of injury or death caused by unintended moonroof operation, place the ignition switch in the OFF position when leaving the Nissan Kicks and never leave children or the Intelligent Key inside the vehicle.
  • Do not intentionally activate the auto-reverse function. If hands, fingers, face, or another body part become caught in the moonroof, serious injury may result.

CAUTION

  • Do not place objects such as newspapers, cloths, papers, or handkerchiefs on the sunshade while it is extending or retracting. This may interfere with operation or damage the sunshade.
  • Do not push the sunshade arm with your hands or other objects. Deformation of the arm may cause improper operation or damage.
  • Do not insert any object into the sunshade inlet port, as this may cause malfunction or damage to the sunshade mechanism.
  • Do not hang objects from the arm rail. This may interfere with movement and may damage the Nissan Kicks sunshade system.
  • Do not pull the sunshade forcefully.

Doing so may stretch or damage the sunshade material.

Improper operation or sunshade damage may result.

If the moonroof still does not operate correctly after completing the procedure above, have the Nissan Kicks inspected by a NISSAN dealer.

Practical moonroof tip: Before parking or washing the Nissan Kicks, make sure the moonroof and sunshade are fully closed to help protect the interior from moisture, dust, and wind noise.
