1. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Disconnection

1.

Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).

2.

Disconnect and isolate the negative cable with the battery sensor (A) from the battery.

NOTE:

Always disconnect the negative side first.

To protect the battery sensor connector (B) from damage, do not hold it when removing the negative terminal.

Do not disconnect the battery sensor from the negative terminal (C).

3.

Disconnect the positive cable (D) from the battery.

4.

Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Unit

1.

From under the front passenger's seat, disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor connector A, B and C.

2.

Remove the front passenger's weight sensor unit (D) from the bracket (E).

NOTE: While separating the front passenger's weight sensor unit from the bracket, use a flat-tipped screwdriver (F) to push and release it from the bracket.

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

After replacing the front passenger's weight sensor unit with a new one, initialize the front passenger's weight sensor unit. Front passenger's weight sensor unit initialization initializes the front passenger's weight sensor.

After installing the front passenger's weight sensor unit, make sure the front passenger's weight sensor unit has the latest software. If it does not have the latest, update the software in the front passenger's weight sensor unit.

1. Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Unit

1.

Install the front passenger's weight sensor unit (D) to the bracket (E).

2.

NOTE: Make sure the front passenger's weight sensor unit is properly installed. You will hear a click when the front passenger's weight sensor unit is securely mounted on the bracket.

3.

Connect the front passenger's weight sensor connector A, B, and C.

2. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Reconnection

(o.2ao.sam.

NOTE: If the battery performs abnormally, test the battery.

1.

Clean the battery terminals.

2.

Connect the positive cable (A) to the battery.

NOTE: Always connect the positive side first.

3.

Connect the negative cable and the battery sensor (B) to the battery.

NOTE: To protect the battery sensor connector (C) from damage, do not hold it when installing the negative terminal.

4.

Apply multipurpose grease to the terminals to prevent corrosion.

3. HDS DLC - Connection

1.

Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

2.

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

3.

Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.

4. DTC - Clear

1.

Clear the DTC(s) by following the screen prompts on the HDS.

2.

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.

5. Front Passenger's Weight Sensor - Initialize

Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Initialization

NOTE:

Before initializing the front passenger's weight sensor, clear the DTCs.

Before initializing the front passenger's weight sensor, make sure the battery is fully charged.

Make sure all components of the front passenger's seat are correctly installed.

Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat, including aftermarket seat covers or mats.

Make sure there is nothing in the front passenger's seat-back pocket.

Keep the windows and the moonroof closed (if equipped).

Do all initialization procedures, except test-driving, in the service bay.

Make sure the vehicle is on level ground.

Dehumidify inside of the vehicle with A/C.

Do not touch the front passenger's seat during the initialization.

Do not expose the front passenger's seat to sudden temperature changes.

1.

Position the front passenger's seat all the way rearward, and adjust the seat-back to the forward most position. Do not move the seat from this position until the initialization is completed.

2.

Drive the vehicle, and accelerate to 22 mph (36 km/h), then stop on level ground.

3.

2-door: From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then INITIALIZATION. In the INITIALIZATION Menu, select SWS Initialization. Follow the prompts until the front passenger's weight sensor initialization has been completed.

4.

4-door: From SRS of the HDS Main Menu, select SWS, then Adjustment. In the Adjustment Menu, select SWS Initialization. Follow the prompts until the front passenger's weight sensor initialization has been completed.

5.

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

6. Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Unit - Update

NOTE:

Make sure the HDS or the MVCI unit has the latest HDS software version.

Before you update the front passenger's weight sensor unit, make sure the battery in the vehicle is fully charged, and connect a jumper battery (not a battery charger) to maintain system voltage.

Never turn the ignition switch during the update. If there is a problem with the update, keep the ignition switch ON (II).

To prevent front passenger's weight sensor unit damage, do not operate anything electrical (headlights, audio system, brakes, A/C, power windows, door locks, etc.) during the update.

To ensure the latest program is installed, do a front passenger's weight sensor unit update whenever the front passenger's weight sensor unit is substituted or replaced.

You cannot update the front passenger's weight sensor unit with the program it already has. It will only accept a new program.

If you need to diagnose the MVCI unit because any error message is indicated on the MVCI unit display during the update, keep the ignition switch ON (II) when you disconnect the MVCI unit from the DLC. This will prevent front passenger's weight sensor unit damage.

1.

Exit HDS diagnostic system, then select the update mode, and follow the screen prompts to update the front passenger's weight sensor unit.

2.

If the software in the front passenger's weight sensor unit is the latest, disconnect the updating tool from the DLC, and go back to the procedure that you were doing. If the software in the front passenger's weight sensor unit is not the latest, follow the instructions on the screen.

NOTE: If you run into a problem during the update procedure (programming takes over 15 minutes, status bar goes over 100%, D position or immobilizer indicator flashes, HDS tablet freezes, etc.), follow these steps to minimize the chance of damaging the front passenger's weight sensor unit:

Keep the ignition switch ON (II).

Connect a jumper battery (do not connect a battery charger).

Shut down the updating tools.

Disconnect the updating tool from the DLC.

Reboot the updating tool.

Reconnect the updating tool to the DLC, and try the update procedure again.

3.

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

7. Confirm Proper SRS Operation

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
