Starting the engine
1. Verify that the parking brake is fully applied before attempting to start your Nissan Kicks.
2. Place the shift selector in P (Park) or N (Neutral), then firmly depress the brake pedal.
3. Press and release the ignition switch to start the engine.
- If the Nissan Kicks engine is difficult to start in extremely cold temperatures or immediately after being shut off, lightly depress the accelerator pedal (approximately one-third of its travel) while starting the engine. Release the pedal as soon as the engine starts running smoothly.
- If the engine becomes flooded and is difficult to start, fully depress the accelerator pedal and hold it to
the floor.
Press the ignition switch to the ON position and crank the engine. After approximately 5 to 6 seconds, stop cranking by switching the ignition to LOCK. Release the accelerator pedal and then attempt to restart the engine while pressing the brake pedal and operating the ignition switch normally. If the engine starts but stalls shortly afterward, repeat the procedure.
CAUTION
Do not operate the starter motor continuously for more than 15 seconds. If the engine of the Nissan Kicks does not start, place the ignition switch in the OFF position and wait at least 10 seconds before attempting another start. Failure to do so may damage the starter system.
4. Warm-up:
After starting, allow the engine to idle for at least 30 seconds. Avoid excessive engine speed while the engine is warming up. Drive the Nissan Kicks gently and at moderate speeds during the first few minutes of operation, especially in cold weather conditions.
During low-temperature operation, it is recommended to let the engine run for at least 2 to 3 minutes before shutting it off. Frequent short trips that involve repeatedly starting and stopping the engine over very short periods may make future starts more difficult.
The Nissan Kicks is engineered to provide efficient cold-weather operation, but allowing the engine and drivetrain components to reach operating temperature gradually helps improve durability and overall performance.
NOTE:
Care should be taken to avoid situations that may lead to battery discharge and possible no-start conditions.
1. Installation or prolonged use of electrical accessories that consume battery power while the engine is not operating, including phone chargers, GPS devices, dash cameras, DVD players, and similar equipment.
2. Infrequent vehicle use and driving only short distances on a regular basis.
Under these conditions, the battery may require periodic charging to maintain optimal condition and reliable starting performance.
Remote Engine Start
Vehicles equipped with Remote Engine Start require the ignition switch to be placed in the ON position before the shift lever can be moved out of the P (Park) position.
To place the ignition switch in the ON position, perform the following steps:
1. Confirm that the Intelligent Key is inside the vehicle or being carried by the driver.
2. Depress the brake pedal.
3. Press the ignition switch once to place the Nissan Kicks in the ON position.
Stopping the engine
WARNING
To reduce the risk of injury, vehicle movement, or property damage, always confirm that the Nissan Kicks is in the P (Park) position and that the parking brake is fully applied before leaving the vehicle.
To switch the vehicle OFF:
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Move the shift lever to the P (Park) position.
3. Press the ignition switch.
Certain electrical components, including the audio system and some convenience features, may continue operating temporarily after the engine has been turned off. These functions will normally deactivate after the driver's door is opened.
If the ignition switch is pressed while the shift lever is positioned somewhere other than P (Park), the engine will stop but the Nissan Kicks will enter AUTO ACC mode. A warning message and audible alert may be displayed to notify the driver.
To completely shut down the vehicle, follow these steps:
1. Verify that the parking brake is applied.
2. Fully depress the brake pedal.
3. Move the shift lever into the P (Park) position.
4. Press the ignition switch.
For maximum reliability and safety, always confirm that the vehicle information display shows the correct status before exiting the Nissan Kicks. Proper engine start and shutdown procedures help protect vehicle systems and ensure long-term operating efficiency.
In normal driving conditions, smooth engine warm-up and proper shutdown practices can contribute to improved fuel economy, reduced mechanical wear, and consistent performance of your Nissan Kicks.
