For USA

If you believe that your Nissan Kicks has a defect that could contribute to a crash or result in injury or loss of life, you should promptly report the concern to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in addition to notifying NISSAN.

When NHTSA receives multiple reports describing similar issues, it may initiate an investigation to determine whether a safety-related defect exists. If a defect affecting a group of vehicles is identified, NHTSA may require a recall and corrective action campaign. However, NHTSA does not mediate individual disputes between vehicle owners, dealerships, or NISSAN.

To contact NHTSA, you may call the Vehicle Safety Hotline toll-free at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153), visit http://www.safercar.gov, or write to:

Administrator, NHTSA
1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE
Washington, D.C. 20590

Additional motor vehicle safety information is also available through the NHTSA website.

You may notify NISSAN directly by contacting the Consumer Affairs Department toll-free at 1-800-NISSAN-1.

For Canada

If you believe that your Nissan Kicks contains a defect that could lead to a collision, injury, or death, you should immediately notify Transport Canada as well as NISSAN.

When Transport Canada receives complaints involving similar concerns, it may conduct an investigation. If a safety-related defect is identified within a group of vehicles, Transport Canada may request that NISSAN initiate a recall campaign. However, Transport Canada cannot become involved in individual matters between a vehicle owner, a dealership, or NISSAN.

You may contact Transport Canada's Defect Investigations and Recalls Division toll-free at 1-800-333-0510. Safety concerns may also be submitted online through the appropriate Transport Canada website.

Readiness for Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) test

Certain U.S. states and Canadian provinces require vehicles to meet Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) testing standards. Before the emissions control system can be tested, the vehicle must be in what is commonly referred to as a "ready condition."

A Nissan Kicks normally reaches the ready condition through everyday driving and normal vehicle operation. During regular use, the vehicle's onboard diagnostic system performs a series of self-checks and emissions-monitoring procedures.

If the battery has been disconnected or a powertrain-related component has been repaired or replaced, the system may revert to a "not ready" status. In this condition, the vehicle may not pass an emissions inspection until the required monitoring cycles have been completed.

Before presenting the vehicle for an I/M inspection, verify the readiness status. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position without starting the engine. If the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) remains illuminated steadily for approximately 20 seconds and then begins blinking for about 10 seconds, the system is indicating a "not ready" condition.

If the MIL does not blink after the initial illumination period, the system is considered "ready" for testing. If assistance is required, it is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer to prepare the vehicle for inspection or to help establish the required readiness condition.
