The
button is included on the NISSAN Intelligent Key when the Nissan Kicks is equipped with the Remote Engine Start
feature. This convenient system allows the engine to be started from outside the vehicle, helping prepare the
cabin before you get behind the wheel.
On Nissan Kicks models equipped with a manual climate control system, the heating or cooling settings generally return to the last mode used before the vehicle was switched off.
Vehicles equipped with automatic climate control may automatically select heating or cooling functions based on outside temperature and cabin conditions to improve comfort when entering the Nissan Kicks.
Some local regulations may limit or prohibit the use of Remote Engine Start, including restrictions on vehicle idling time. Certain areas may require the vehicle to remain within the operator's sight while the engine is running remotely.
Always verify local laws and regulations before using the Nissan Kicks Remote Engine Start system.
Vehicle conditions, weather, radio interference, and Intelligent Key performance may also affect operation of the Remote Engine Start feature.
Remote Engine Start operating range
WARNING
- To help avoid the risk of injury or death through unintended operation of the vehicle and its systems, including accidental window operation or door lock activation, never leave children, people requiring assistance, or pets unattended inside the Nissan Kicks. Interior temperatures can rise rapidly and become dangerous.
- Do not use Remote Engine Start in enclosed areas such as garages or other poorly ventilated spaces.
Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which is colorless, odorless, and extremely dangerous.
Carbon monoxide exposure can cause unconsciousness, serious injury, or death.
CAUTION
If the Intelligent Key battery is weak or discharged, or if strong radio-frequency interference is present nearby, the operating range may decrease and the Nissan Kicks Remote Engine Start feature may not function correctly.
The Remote Engine Start system can only be used when the Intelligent Key is within the specified operating range of the vehicle.
The normal operating range is approximately 197 ft (60 m) from the Nissan Kicks.
Remote starting the vehicle
To activate the Nissan Kicks Remote Engine Start feature:
1. Point the Intelligent Key toward the vehicle.
2. Press the
button to lock all doors.
3. Within 5 seconds, press and hold the
button until the turn signal lamps flash and the tail lamps illuminate. If the Nissan Kicks is not visible,
press and hold the
button for at least 2 seconds.
When the engine starts remotely, the following actions occur:
- The parking lights illuminate and remain on while the engine is running.
- The doors stay locked and the climate control system may activate automatically.
- The engine continues running for up to 10 minutes.
The operating time may be extended once for an additional 10 minutes.
Before driving the Nissan Kicks, press and hold the brake pedal and place the ignition switch in the ON position.
Extending engine run time
The Remote Engine Start operating period can be extended one time by repeating the remote start procedure.
Runtime is calculated as follows:
- The initial operating cycle lasts 10 minutes from the moment Remote Engine Start is activated.
- The second operating cycle begins immediately after the extension command is accepted. For example, if the engine has been running for 5 minutes and an extension is activated, the total runtime becomes 15 minutes.
- Using the extension feature counts toward the maximum Remote Engine Start limit.
A maximum of two Remote Engine Start cycles, or one cycle with one extension, is permitted between ignition cycles.
Before the feature can be used again, the ignition switch must be turned ON and then returned to the OFF position.
Canceling a Remote Engine Start
To cancel a Remote Engine Start operation, perform any of the following actions:
- Aim the Intelligent Key at the Nissan Kicks and press
until the parking lights turn off.
- Turn on the hazard warning flashers.
- Cycle the ignition switch ON and then OFF.
- Allow the extended runtime to expire.
- Allow the original 10-minute operating cycle to expire.
- Open the hood.
- Move the transmission out of the P (Park) position.
- Trigger the vehicle security alarm.
- Press the ignition switch without a recognized Intelligent Key inside the vehicle.
- Press the ignition switch while the Intelligent Key is inside the vehicle but without depressing the brake pedal.
Conditions the Remote Engine Start will not work
The Nissan Kicks Remote Engine Start feature will not operate under any of the following conditions:
- The ignition switch is already in the ON position.
- The hood is not fully closed and latched.
- The hazard warning flashers are activated.
- The engine is already running. If the engine has just been switched off, wait at least 6 seconds before attempting another Remote Engine Start. This does not apply when extending runtime.
- The
button is not pressed and held for at least 2 seconds.
- The
button is not pressed within 5 seconds after locking the vehicle.
- The brake pedal is depressed.
- The doors are not fully closed and locked.
- The liftgate is open.
- A Key System Error warning message appears in the vehicle information display.
- The vehicle alarm has been activated due to unauthorized entry.
- Two Remote Engine Start cycles, or one cycle with an extension, have already been used.
- The Nissan Kicks is not in the P (Park) position.
- A registered Intelligent Key is detected inside the vehicle.
- The Remote Engine Start feature has been disabled through the "Vehicle Settings" menu in the vehicle information display.
The Nissan Kicks may display a warning message or indicator in the vehicle information display if Remote Engine Start cannot be completed or is interrupted due to one of the conditions listed above.
During extremely hot or cold weather, the Remote Engine Start system can improve comfort by allowing the Nissan Kicks climate control system to begin adjusting the cabin temperature before occupants enter the vehicle.
