The Rear Door Alert system in the Nissan Kicks is designed to help remind drivers to check the rear seating area before leaving the vehicle. Under specific operating conditions, the system can indicate that a passenger, pet, personal item, or other object may have been left in the rear seat. Always visually inspect the rear seating area before exiting your Nissan Kicks.

By default, the Rear Door Alert feature is disabled.

The driver can activate or deactivate the system through the vehicle information display settings menu.

When the system is enabled:

  • The system becomes active when one of the rear doors is opened and closed within approximately 10 minutes before the Nissan Kicks begins driving. Once the driver closes the driver's door and the conditions are met, a confirmation message appears in the vehicle information display indicating that the feature has been activated.
  • If a rear door is opened and closed but the Nissan Kicks is not driven within roughly 10 minutes afterward, the system will not activate. To enable monitoring, a rear door must be opened and closed and the vehicle must be driven within the specified time period.

When the Rear Door Alert system is activated:

  • When the driver shifts the Nissan Kicks into the P (Park) position, a notification message appears in the vehicle information display. The driver can choose either "Dismiss Message" or "Disable Alert" depending on preference.
    • Selecting "Disable Alert" temporarily deactivates the reminder for that particular stop.
    • Selecting "Dismiss Message" or making no selection will keep the alert active for that stop.
  • If the alert remains active when the driver exits the Nissan Kicks, a message will appear stating: "Check Back Seat For All Articles." If the "Horn & Alert" option has been selected:
    • An audible horn warning will sound after a short delay unless a rear door is opened and closed to cancel the reminder.
    • If the vehicle doors are locked before the alert is cleared, the horn will sound to attract the driver's attention.
    • If the liftgate is opened before a rear door is opened, the horn warning may be delayed until the liftgate has been closed.

NOTE:

If the "Alert Only" setting is selected, the Nissan Kicks will continue displaying reminder messages in the vehicle information display, but no horn warning will be sounded.

WARNING

  • If the driver chooses "Disable Alert," no audible warning will be provided regardless of whether a rear door was previously opened or closed.
  • There may be situations where a passenger or object remains in the rear seat, but no horn alert is triggered. For example, rear passengers may enter or leave the Nissan Kicks during a trip without opening a rear door before departure.
  • The Rear Door Alert system does not directly detect occupants, pets, or objects. Instead, it monitors rear door activity and uses that information to determine whether a reminder should be displayed.

NOTE:

In some situations, the horn may sound even though no passenger or object is present in the rear seating area. This is a normal characteristic of the Nissan Kicks Rear Door Alert system.

Additional safety tip: Always perform a quick visual inspection of the rear seats before locking the vehicle, especially when transporting children, pets, groceries, or valuable items.
