Whenever performing inspection, maintenance, or repair work on your Nissan Kicks, always exercise caution to help prevent personal injury and avoid accidental damage to vehicle components. Following proper maintenance procedures contributes to the reliability, safety, and long-term performance of your vehicle. The general precautions below should always be observed before beginning any service work.

WARNING

  • Park the Nissan Kicks on a firm, level surface, fully apply the parking brake, and block the wheels to prevent any unintended vehicle movement. Always move the shift lever to the P (Park) position before beginning maintenance.
  • Verify that the ignition switch is in the OFF or LOCK position before performing repairs, inspections, adjustments, or component replacement.
  • If maintenance requires the engine to be running, keep hands, clothing, hair, tools, and any loose objects away from cooling fans, drive belts, pulleys, and all moving components.
  • It is strongly recommended to secure loose clothing and remove jewelry such as watches, rings, bracelets, necklaces, or other metallic accessories before working on your vehicle.
  • Always wear appropriate eye protection whenever inspecting or servicing any part of the vehicle.
  • Your Nissan Kicks is equipped with an automatic engine cooling fan that may activate unexpectedly, even when the engine is not running and the ignition switch is in the OFF position. To reduce the risk of injury, disconnect the negative battery cable before working near the cooling fan assembly.
  • If the engine must be operated indoors, such as in a garage or workshop, ensure adequate ventilation so exhaust gases can safely escape the area.
  • Never position yourself underneath a vehicle supported only by a jack. If work beneath the vehicle is necessary, always use properly rated safety stands for support.
  • Keep cigarettes, open flames, sparks, and any other ignition sources away from the battery and fuel system components at all times.
  • Because fuel lines on gasoline-powered models remain under pressure even after the engine has been turned off, servicing the fuel filter or fuel lines should be performed by a qualified technician. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this work.

CAUTION

  • Do not work under the hood while the engine is hot. Turn the engine off and allow sufficient time for all components to cool before beginning service procedures.
  • Avoid direct contact with used engine oil, coolant, and other automotive fluids. Improper disposal of these materials can harm the environment. Always dispose of vehicle fluids according to local environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Never leave engine-related or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) wiring harnesses disconnected while the ignition switch remains in the ON position.
  • Do not connect or disconnect the battery, electronic control modules, or transistorized electrical components while the ignition switch is in the ON position, as damage to electrical systems may occur.

This Do-it-yourself section of the Nissan Kicks owner's information provides guidance only for maintenance procedures that are generally straightforward and can be safely performed by vehicle owners with basic tools and knowledge.

A Genuine NISSAN Service Manual is also available and contains more detailed technical information, service procedures, specifications, and diagnostic instructions.

Keep in mind that incomplete, incorrect, or improperly performed maintenance can lead to operating problems, increased emissions, reduced reliability, or conditions that may affect warranty coverage. If you are uncertain about any maintenance procedure, it is recommended that the work be carried out by a qualified technician at a NISSAN dealer.
