Technical ReferenceSpecifications, procedures and limits

The liftgate on the Nissan Kicks provides access to the rear cargo area and should always be opened and closed with care. Before driving, confirm that the liftgate is fully latched and that no cargo, straps, or objects are caught in the opening.

WARNING

  • Always make sure the liftgate is closed securely to prevent it from opening while the Nissan Kicks is being driven.
  • Do not drive with the liftgate open.

Driving with the liftgate open may allow dangerous exhaust gases to enter the passenger compartment.

  • Do not leave children, adults who normally require assistance, or pets unattended inside the vehicle.

They could accidentally operate vehicle systems and injure themselves or others.

On hot, sunny days, the temperature inside a closed Nissan Kicks can rise quickly enough to cause serious or fatal injury to people or animals.

  • Always keep hands, fingers, and feet clear of the liftgate opening and door frame when closing the liftgate.

CAUTION

  • Before opening the liftgate, remove snow, ice, dust, or other material that may be stuck to it. If the liftgate is opened with extra weight attached, it may unexpectedly close again.
  • Always open the liftgate fully.

If it is not fully raised, it may suddenly fall or close.

  • Use extra care when opening the liftgate in strong wind. A gust of wind may move the liftgate unexpectedly and cause it to close suddenly.

Nissan Kicks liftgate gas stays and support rods

  • The liftgate gas stays A are installed to support the weight of the Nissan Kicks liftgate.

To help prevent damage to the gas stays and maintain proper liftgate operation, observe the following precautions.

  • Do not insert hands, tools, cords, or straps into the gas stays A, and do not apply sideways force to them.
  • Do not attach stickers, plastic pieces, adhesive materials, or other foreign objects to the rod B portion.
  • Do not close the liftgate while holding the gas stays, and do not hang bags or other items from them. This may trap hands or arms and could cause injury.

Opening the liftgate

Closing the liftgate

WARNING

  • Do not close the liftgate with one hand while the other hand remains on the liftgate or vehicle body. Your hand may become trapped and injury could result.
  • When closing the liftgate, keep your hands away from the outer edge of the liftgate. Always close it from the outside using a safe grip area.
  • After closing the liftgate, check that it is securely latched.

If the liftgate opens while the Nissan Kicks is moving, it could lead to a serious accident.

To close the liftgate, pull it down firmly until it locks securely in place.
