If your Nissan Kicks begins to overheat, indicated by the red high-temperature warning light
(if equipped), or if you notice a significant
loss of engine performance, unusual sounds, or other signs of excessive engine temperature, take immediate
action by following the steps below.
WARNING
- Do not continue driving an overheated Nissan Kicks. Operating the vehicle while the engine temperature is excessively high can result in severe engine damage and may increase the risk of a vehicle fire.
- To prevent serious burns, never remove the engine coolant reservoir cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system remains pressurized, and hot coolant or steam may be released forcefully, causing severe injury.
- Do not open the hood if steam is visible coming from the engine compartment.
1. Safely pull the vehicle off the roadway, away from traffic whenever possible. Apply the parking brake firmly and move the shift lever to the P (Park) position.
Do not turn the engine off immediately.
2. Switch off the air conditioner. Open all windows and set the heater temperature control to the hottest setting. Adjust the blower fan to the highest speed to help remove excess heat from the engine compartment.
3. Exit the vehicle carefully and inspect the front of the Nissan Kicks from a safe distance. Look and listen for signs of escaping steam or coolant before opening the hood. If steam or coolant is visibly escaping, turn the engine off. Do not continue opening the hood until all steam and coolant discharge has completely stopped.
4. Carefully open the engine hood.
WARNING
If steam or hot coolant is escaping from the engine compartment, keep a safe distance to avoid burns or scalding injuries.
5. Visually inspect the drive belts for signs of looseness, wear, or damage. Also verify that the cooling fan is operating correctly. Check the radiator and coolant hoses for leaks. If coolant is leaking, the drive belt is missing or loose, or the cooling fan is not functioning, turn the engine off immediately.
WARNING
Keep hands, hair, jewelry, loose clothing, and tools away from engine belts and cooling fan components. The cooling fan on the Nissan Kicks may activate automatically at any time, even when the engine appears to be idle.
6. After the engine temperature has decreased to a safe level, check the coolant level in the engine coolant reservoir while the engine is running. Add the appropriate coolant if necessary to restore the proper level. If overheating occurred, have the Nissan Kicks inspected and repaired as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for professional diagnosis and service.
