WARNING

  • Never depend solely on the Hill Start Assist system to keep the Nissan Kicks from rolling backward on an incline. Always remain attentive and maintain full control of the vehicle.

When stopped on a steep hill, keep the brake pedal firmly depressed. Extra caution is required on icy, snowy, wet, or muddy surfaces. Failure to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward could result in loss of control, a collision, serious injury, or death.

  • The Hill Start Assist system is not intended to hold the vehicle stationary on a hill for extended periods. Always keep the brake pedal applied when stopped on a steep incline. Failure to do so may allow the vehicle to move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of an accident or personal injury.
  • Depending on vehicle load, road conditions, surface traction, and the steepness of the incline, Hill Start Assist may not always prevent backward movement.

Always be prepared to apply the brakes immediately if necessary. Failure to do so could result in a collision or serious injury.

The Hill Start Assist system is designed to help make hill starts easier by automatically maintaining brake pressure for a short period after the brake pedal is released. This helps prevent the Nissan Kicks from rolling backward while the driver moves their foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator.

This feature can be particularly useful when starting on steep inclines, helping provide smoother and more confident takeoffs without the need for rapid pedal transitions.

The Hill Start Assist system operates automatically when all of the following conditions are met:

  • The transmission is shifted into a forward driving range or Reverse.
  • The vehicle has come to a complete stop on an incline while the brake pedal is applied.

The maximum brake-holding period provided by the system is approximately 2 seconds.

After this period expires, the temporary brake hold is released and the vehicle may begin to roll backward if sufficient accelerator input has not been applied. At that point, the Hill Start Assist function stops operating until the required conditions occur again.

The Hill Start Assist system does not operate when the transmission is in the N (Neutral) or P (Park) position. It is also inactive when the Nissan Kicks is stopped on a flat or nearly level road surface.

If the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) indicator light is illuminated in the instrument cluster, the Hill Start Assist system will not function. Because Hill Start Assist works in conjunction with other vehicle control systems, proper operation depends on those systems being available.

Nissan Kicks Hill Start Assist status display in Chassis Control mode

The operating status of the Hill Start Assist function can be viewed through the Chassis Control screen in the vehicle information display. This allows the driver to monitor system activity and verify when the feature is available while driving the Nissan Kicks.
