Flat towing for all-wheel drive vehicle
Towing a vehicle with all four wheels remaining on the ground is commonly referred to as flat towing, dinghy towing, or 4-down towing. This method is often used when a vehicle is being transported behind a recreational vehicle such as a motorhome.
CAUTION
- Failure to follow the recommended towing procedures can result in severe transmission or drivetrain damage.
- Never flat tow an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Nissan Kicks.
- Do not tow an AWD Nissan Kicks with any of its wheels in contact with the ground. Doing so can cause serious and costly damage to the powertrain and AWD system components.
Because the AWD system is not designed for this type of towing, improper towing procedures can place excessive stress on drivetrain components and lead to expensive repairs.
Flat towing for front wheel drive vehicle
Towing a vehicle with all four wheels on the ground is also known as flat towing, dinghy towing, or 4-down towing. While this method is sometimes used behind recreational vehicles, specific precautions must be followed for Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) Nissan Kicks models.
CAUTION
- Failure to follow these instructions may result in severe transmission damage.
- Whenever the vehicle is being towed, it must always be towed in a forward direction and never backward.
- Never tow a front-wheel drive Nissan Kicks with the front tires on the ground. Doing so may cause significant and expensive damage to drivetrain components.
- Do not flat tow a front-wheel drive vehicle equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with all four wheels on the ground. Internal transmission components can be damaged due to insufficient lubrication during towing.
Continuously Variable Transmission
When towing a Nissan Kicks equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), a suitable vehicle dolly must be positioned beneath the drive wheels. This helps prevent transmission damage that may occur when the drive wheels rotate while the engine is not running.
Always follow the instructions and recommendations provided by the dolly manufacturer to ensure safe transportation and proper vehicle support.
