The following information is intended to provide a clearer understanding of the scheduled maintenance items that should be inspected, serviced, or replaced at regular intervals. The maintenance schedule for the Nissan Kicks specifies the mileage and time-based service intervals required to help maintain vehicle performance, reliability, and long-term durability.
In addition to the scheduled services outlined in the maintenance program, certain components should be checked during routine day-to-day operation. Regular observation of your Nissan Kicks can help identify developing issues before they affect vehicle operation.
Items marked with "*" are maintenance recommendations provided by NISSAN to help support dependable vehicle operation and maintain the overall condition of the vehicle.
Performing service on these recommended items is not a condition of warranty coverage. However, other maintenance procedures and intervals specified by NISSAN remain necessary to comply with required maintenance schedules.
Where applicable, more detailed service procedures and inspection information can be found in the "Do-it-yourself" section of this manual, allowing owners to better understand routine maintenance requirements.
NOTE:
NISSAN does not recommend the use of aftermarket flushing systems that have not been approved by the manufacturer and strongly advises against performing such services on a NISSAN vehicle. Many aftermarket flushing systems utilize chemicals, solvents, or cleaning agents that have not been tested or validated by NISSAN and may adversely affect vehicle components or fluids.
Emission control system maintenance
Air cleaner filter: Replace the air cleaner filter at the specified maintenance intervals. A clean filter helps maintain proper engine airflow and supports efficient engine operation.
If the Nissan Kicks is frequently driven on dusty roads or in environments with high airborne debris, inspect and replace the filter more often than the standard maintenance schedule recommends.
Engine coolant*: Replace the engine coolant at the specified intervals. Whenever coolant is added or replaced, use only Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) or an equivalent product mixed according to the recommended specifications.
NOTE: Mixing different coolant types or using non-distilled water may reduce coolant effectiveness and shorten the recommended service life of the cooling system fluid.
Engine drive belts*: Inspect engine drive belts for signs of wear, cracking, fraying, glazing, or improper tension. Any belt showing damage or excessive wear should be replaced promptly to ensure reliable operation of engine-driven accessories.
Engine oil and oil filter: Replace both the engine oil and oil filter at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. Regular oil service is essential for proper lubrication, engine protection, and long-term performance of the Nissan Kicks.
Engine valve clearance*: Routine inspection is generally unnecessary under normal operating conditions. However, if valve train noise becomes noticeably louder, inspect the valve clearance and make adjustments as required.
Fuel filter*: No periodic replacement is required because the vehicle uses an in-tank fuel filter designed for long-term service.
Fuel lines/connections*: Inspect fuel hoses, pipes, and related connections for signs of leakage, deterioration, looseness, or damage. Tighten loose fittings and replace affected components whenever necessary.
Fuel tank vapor vent system*: Check vapor lines and associated components for leaks, deterioration, or loose connections. Repair or replace any damaged parts to ensure proper operation of the evaporative emissions system.
Spark plugs: Replace spark plugs at the specified maintenance intervals to maintain proper ignition performance and engine efficiency.
Always install replacement spark plugs that match the original equipment specifications supplied for the Nissan Kicks.
Chassis and body maintenance
Brake lines and cables: Perform a visual inspection to confirm proper routing and installation. Check for chafing, cracks, corrosion, deterioration, or signs of fluid leakage that could affect braking performance.
Any damaged, worn, or deteriorated components should be replaced immediately to help maintain safe vehicle operation.
Brake pads and rotors: Inspect brake pads and rotors for wear, damage, deterioration, and any evidence of fluid leaks. Components that do not meet service specifications should be replaced without delay.
Exhaust system: Visually inspect the exhaust pipes, muffler, brackets, and hangers for leaks, cracks, corrosion, excessive deterioration, or physical damage. Tighten loose connections and replace damaged components as required.
In-cabin microfilter: Replace the cabin air filter at the recommended intervals to help maintain proper airflow through the ventilation system and improve interior air quality.
When the Nissan Kicks is operated for extended periods in dusty environments, more frequent replacement of the in-cabin microfilter may be necessary.
Propeller shaft(s): Inspect for looseness, physical damage, excessive wear, or grease leakage. (AWD models)
Steering gear and linkage, axle and suspension parts, drive shaft boots: Inspect these components for damage, looseness, cracks, deterioration, and signs of oil or grease leakage. Vehicles regularly driven under severe conditions should be inspected more frequently than the normal maintenance schedule recommends.
Tire rotation: Rotate the tires according to the intervals listed in the maintenance schedule. Regular tire rotation helps promote more even tread wear and can contribute to longer tire service life.
During tire rotation, carefully inspect each tire for cuts, punctures, sidewall damage, irregular wear patterns, or other conditions that may require repair or replacement.
Transmission fluid/oil, differential gear oil, coupling oil and transfer fluid: At the specified maintenance intervals, visually inspect these systems for signs of leakage and fluid seepage around seals, gaskets, and related components.
If the Nissan Kicks is equipped with a car-top carrier or is frequently operated on rough, muddy, or unpaved roads, additional maintenance is recommended:
- Replace the differential gear oil and transfer fluid every 20,000 miles (32,000 km) or 24 months to help protect drivetrain components operating under demanding conditions.
- Replace the CVT fluid every 60,000 miles (96,000 km). CVT fluid replacement for this condition is determined by mileage only.
