Technical ReferenceSpecifications, procedures and limits

The engine cooling system of the Nissan Kicks is factory-filled with a pre-mixed solution consisting of 50% Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) and 50% water. This carefully balanced mixture is designed to provide reliable year-round protection against freezing, overheating, rust formation, and corrosion within the cooling system.

The coolant contains specially formulated corrosion and rust inhibitors that help protect internal engine components and cooling passages. Under normal operating conditions, no supplemental cooling system additives are required or recommended.

WARNING

  • Never remove the coolant reservoir cap while the engine is hot. Always allow the engine and cooling system components to cool completely before opening the reservoir.

Hot coolant under pressure can escape suddenly and cause severe burns or other serious injuries.

  • The coolant reservoir uses a pressure-type cap designed specifically for the Nissan Kicks cooling system. To help prevent engine damage and maintain proper cooling system operation, use only a Genuine NISSAN coolant reservoir cap.

CAUTION

  • Never add cooling system additives, radiator sealers, or similar products to the cooling system. Such additives may restrict coolant flow, clog passages, and potentially cause damage to the engine, transmission, or cooling system components.
  • When topping off or replacing coolant, use only Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) or an equivalent coolant that meets the required specifications. Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) is supplied pre-diluted and provides freeze protection down to -34°F (-37°C).

If operating conditions require additional freeze protection, use Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) concentrate and follow the instructions provided on the container. When using an equivalent coolant, carefully follow the coolant manufacturer's recommendations to maintain at least -34°F (-37°C) of freeze protection.

Using coolant products other than Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) or an approved equivalent may adversely affect the cooling system and lead to premature component wear or damage.

  • The factory-filled coolant used in the Nissan Kicks is designed for a service life of up to 105,000 miles (168,000 km) or 7 years. Mixing different coolant types, including Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (green), non-approved coolants, or non-distilled water, may reduce the service life and effectiveness of the coolant. Refer to the Maintenance and Schedules section for additional service information.

Checking Engine Coolant Level

Nissan Kicks engine coolant reservoir MAX and MIN level inspection

Check the coolant level only when the engine is cold. Inspect the coolant reservoir and verify that the coolant remains between the MAX level A and MIN level B markings.

If the coolant level falls below the MIN mark, add the recommended coolant mixture until the level reaches the MAX mark. Avoid overfilling the reservoir.

If the engine cooling system in your Nissan Kicks requires coolant frequently, the system should be inspected for leaks or other issues. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for diagnosis and service.

Changing Engine Coolant

Engine coolant replacement should be performed according to the recommended maintenance schedule. A NISSAN dealer can perform this service using the proper procedures and equipment. Detailed instructions are also available in the NISSAN Service Manual.

Improper coolant service procedures may reduce heater performance, compromise cooling system efficiency, and increase the risk of engine overheating.

WARNING

  • To reduce the risk of burns or scalding, never attempt to replace coolant while the engine or cooling system is hot.
  • Never remove the coolant reservoir cap when the engine is hot. Pressurized coolant can escape forcefully and cause severe personal injury.
  • Avoid prolonged skin contact with used engine coolant. If contact occurs, wash the affected area thoroughly with soap, water, or a suitable hand cleaner as soon as possible.
  • Always keep engine coolant out of the reach of children and pets. Coolant can be harmful if swallowed.

Used engine coolant from the Nissan Kicks must be collected and disposed of properly in accordance with environmental regulations.

Always follow local laws and disposal requirements when handling or recycling used coolant.
