Nissan Kicks: Do-it-yourself - Brakes

Owner's ManualControls, warnings, safety systems
Technical ReferenceSpecifications, procedures and limits

If you notice reduced braking performance, unusual pedal feel, or any abnormal behavior from the braking system, have the brakes inspected as soon as possible. For proper diagnosis and repair of your Nissan Kicks, it is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer.

Self-Adjusting Brakes

Your Nissan Kicks is equipped with self-adjusting disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels.

The braking system automatically compensates for normal pad wear each time the brake pedal is applied, helping maintain consistent braking performance and pedal feel throughout the service life of the brake components.

WARNING

If the brake pedal height, travel, or feel does not return to normal, have the brake system inspected immediately. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for professional service.

Brake Pad Wear Indicators

The disc brake pads installed on the Nissan Kicks are equipped with audible wear indicators. When the brake pads reach their service limit, a high-pitched scraping or screeching sound may be heard while the vehicle is moving.

This warning noise may occur whether the brake pedal is being pressed or not. If this sound is heard, the brake system should be inspected promptly to prevent excessive wear and maintain safe braking performance.

Under certain weather conditions or driving situations, occasional squeaks, squeals, or other brake-related noises may occur. Light brake noise during gentle or moderate braking is generally considered normal and does not indicate a problem with brake operation.

Regular brake inspections are important for maintaining the safety and reliability of your Nissan Kicks. Follow the maintenance intervals listed in the "Maintenance and Schedules" section of this manual to ensure the braking system remains in proper working condition.
