- If the battery carries a "Do Not Open" label, it is a maintenance-free unit and the electrolyte level does not require routine inspection. To verify battery condition and performance, it is recommended that you have the battery checked by a NISSAN dealer or a qualified service specialist.
- Keep the battery housing clean and dry at all times.
Any dirt, moisture, or corrosion should be removed promptly. A mixture of baking soda and water can be used to safely clean the exterior surface of the battery.
- Inspect the battery terminals periodically and ensure that all connections are clean, free of corrosion, and securely tightened.
- If the Nissan Kicks will remain unused for 30 days or longer, disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal cable to help prevent battery discharge and maintain battery condition.
NOTE:
Care should be taken to avoid situations that may contribute to battery discharge and result in a no-start condition.
1. Installation or prolonged use of electronic accessories that continue to consume battery power while the engine is not running, such as phone chargers, GPS units, DVD players, dash cameras, and similar devices.
2. Infrequent vehicle operation or repeated short-distance driving that does not allow the battery sufficient time to recharge fully.
Under these circumstances, the battery may require periodic charging to maintain proper performance and long-term reliability.
WARNING
- Keep all flames, sparks, and sources of ignition away from the battery. Hydrogen gas produced by the
battery is highly explosive and may cause severe injury or blindness if ignited. Battery electrolyte
contains sulfuric acid, which can cause serious burns to the skin and eyes.
If battery acid comes into contact with your eyes, skin, clothing, or painted surfaces, immediately flush the affected area with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention. After handling the battery or battery caps, thoroughly wash your hands and avoid touching your face or eyes.
- Whenever working on or near the battery, wear appropriate eye protection and remove rings, watches, necklaces, or other metal jewelry.
- Battery posts, terminals, and related components contain lead and lead compounds. Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling these components.
- Keep the battery out of the reach of children.
- Do not tilt or overturn the battery.
NOTE:
Do not attempt to open the top portion of the battery.
This maintenance-free battery is not equipped with removable vent caps and should not be disassembled or opened under any circumstances.
Jump Starting
If jump starting becomes necessary, refer to the "Jump Starting" procedure in this manual. If the Nissan Kicks does not start after a proper jump-start procedure has been performed, the battery may require replacement. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for diagnosis and service.
