WARNING

Failure to follow the warnings and operating instructions for the LDW system may result in serious injury or death.

  • This system is only a warning feature designed to inform the driver of a possible unintended lane departure. It does not steer the Nissan Kicks, does not prevent loss of control, and does not replace safe driving. The driver is always responsible for staying alert, keeping the vehicle within the driving lane, monitoring road conditions, and remaining in full control of the vehicle.

The LDW system operates when the Nissan Kicks is driven at speeds of approximately 37 mph (60 km/h) or higher, and only when lane markings are clearly visible on the road surface.

The system monitors lane markers in the current travel lane using camera unit A, which is installed above the inside mirror.

When the LDW system detects that the Nissan Kicks is beginning to move out of its lane, it warns the driver with a visual indicator and steering wheel vibration.

LDW system operation

  1. Lane Departure Warning (LDW) indicator

The LDW system provides a lane departure warning when the vehicle is traveling at approximately 37 mph (60 km/h) or above and lane markings are clearly detected. If the Nissan Kicks approaches the left or right side of the travel lane without the expected driver input, the steering wheel vibrates and the LDW indicator on the instrument panel blinks to alert the driver.

The warning stops when the vehicle returns within the detected lane markers.

The strength of the steering wheel vibration can be adjusted in the settings menu of the vehicle information display.

LDW system limitations

WARNING

The following items describe system limitations for the LDW system. Failure to understand and follow these limitations may result in serious injury or death.

  • The system does not operate at speeds below approximately 37 mph (60 km/h) or when lane markers cannot be detected.
  • Do not rely on the LDW system under the following conditions, because it may not operate correctly:
    • During poor weather, such as rain, fog, snow, or similar conditions that reduce visibility.
    • When driving on slippery roads, including roads covered with ice or snow.
    • When driving on winding, rough, or uneven roads.
    • When a lane is closed because of road work or repairs.
    • When driving in a temporary or makeshift lane.
    • When the road lane is too narrow for reliable detection.
    • When the tires are not in normal condition, such as when tires are worn, tire pressure is low, a spare tire is installed, tire chains are fitted, or nonstandard wheels are used.
    • When the Nissan Kicks is equipped with non-original brake parts or suspension components.
  • The system may also fail to operate properly under the following conditions:
    • On roads with multiple parallel lane markings, faded lane markings, unclear paint, yellow lane markings, non-standard markings, or lane lines covered by water, dirt, snow, or debris.
    • On roads where old or discontinued lane markings are still visible.
    • On roads with sharp curves.
    • On roads with strong visual contrasts, including shadows, snow patches, standing water, tire tracks, pavement seams, or lines remaining after road repairs. The LDW system may incorrectly identify these as lane markers.
    • On roads where the travel lane merges, separates, or changes shape.
    • When the direction of travel does not align properly with the lane marker.
    • When driving too close to the vehicle ahead, blocking the camera's ability to detect lane markings.
    • When rain, snow, dirt, frost, or another object adheres to the windshield in front of the lane camera unit.
    • When the headlights are dim because of dirty lenses or improper headlight aiming.
    • When strong light enters the lane camera unit, such as direct sunlight shining toward the front of the Nissan Kicks at sunrise or sunset.
    • When brightness changes suddenly, for example when entering or exiting a tunnel, underpass, bridge shadow, or parking structure.

For stable LDW performance, keep the windshield area around the camera clean and avoid placing stickers, film, or accessories near the camera field of view. Clear lane markings and a clean camera area help the Nissan Kicks provide more consistent lane departure warnings.

System temporarily unavailable

If the Nissan Kicks is parked in direct sunlight during high-temperature conditions, above approximately 104ºF (40ºC), and then started, the LDW system may temporarily deactivate automatically. In this situation, the following message may appear in the vehicle information display: "Unavailable: High Cabin Temperature." When the cabin temperature decreases, the LDW system will resume operation automatically.

The LDW system is not designed to provide warnings under the following conditions:

  • When the lane change signal is operated and the Nissan Kicks changes lanes in the direction of the signal. The LDW system becomes available again approximately 2 seconds after the lane change signal is turned off.
  • When vehicle speed drops below approximately 37 mph (60 km/h).

After these conditions end and all required operating conditions are satisfied, the LDW functions will resume automatically.

System malfunction

If the LDW system malfunctions, it will cancel automatically. The LDW indicator (orange) or LDW indicator light will illuminate in the instrument panel. If this warning appears while driving the Nissan Kicks, move off the road to a safe location and stop the vehicle. Turn the engine/motor off and then restart the engine/motor. If the LDW indicator (orange) or LDW indicator light remains illuminated, have the system inspected. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.

System maintenance

Nissan Kicks LDW lane camera unit maintenance location above inside mirror

The lane camera unit A used by the LDW system is located above the inside mirror. To help the Nissan Kicks Lane Departure Warning system operate correctly and to reduce the chance of system malfunction, follow these care instructions:

  • Always keep the windshield clean, especially the area in front of the lane camera unit.
  • Do not attach stickers, transparent film, decals, or accessories near the camera unit.
  • Do not place reflective objects such as white paper, glossy materials, or mirrors on the instrument panel. Reflected sunlight may interfere with the camera's ability to detect lane markings accurately.
  • Do not strike, damage, or apply pressure to the area around the camera unit. Do not touch the camera lens or remove the screw located on the camera unit. If the camera unit is damaged in an accident, it is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for inspection.

Clear glass, correct camera visibility, and undamaged surrounding trim help the Nissan Kicks detect lane markings more consistently during normal highway driving.
