WARNING

Failure to follow the warnings and operating instructions for the I-FCW system could lead to a crash, serious injury, or death.

  • The I-FCW system is designed to help alert the driver before a possible forward collision situation develops, but it cannot prevent a collision by itself. The driver must always remain attentive, drive responsibly, maintain proper control of the Nissan Kicks, and be ready to brake or steer when necessary.

The Intelligent Forward Collision Warning system can help notify the driver when a second vehicle ahead suddenly brakes in the same lane, even when that vehicle is traveling in front of the vehicle directly ahead of your Nissan Kicks.

The I-FCW system uses a radar sensor A positioned at the front of the vehicle to monitor the distance to the vehicle ahead in the same lane and help identify changes in traffic flow before they become more difficult to react to.

I-FCW system operation

Nissan Kicks Intelligent Forward Collision Warning system operation diagram

The I-FCW system operates when the vehicle is traveling at speeds above approximately 3 mph (5 km/h).

If the system determines that there may be a risk of a forward collision, it alerts the driver by flashing the vehicle ahead detection indicator in the vehicle information display and by sounding an audible warning. This gives the driver of the Nissan Kicks an additional prompt to check traffic conditions and respond appropriately.

Turning the I-FCW system on/off

WARNING

The following points describe important operating limitations of the I-FCW system. Failure to drive the vehicle with these limitations in mind could result in serious injury or death.

  • The I-FCW system cannot detect every vehicle in every traffic, road, or weather condition.
  • The radar sensor is not designed to detect the following objects:
    • Pedestrians, animals, or stationary obstacles in the roadway
    • Vehicles approaching from the opposite direction
    • Vehicles crossing in front of the Nissan Kicks
  • (Illustration A) The I-FCW system may not operate when the vehicle ahead is narrow, such as a motorcycle, because the radar target may be too small or difficult to track consistently.
  • The radar sensor may fail to detect a vehicle ahead under the following conditions:
    • During snow, heavy rain, or other poor weather conditions that reduce sensor visibility
    • When dirt, ice, snow, slush, or another material covers the radar sensor area.
    • When interference is caused by other radar sources nearby.
    • When snow, water spray, or road spray from surrounding vehicles affects radar detection.
    • When driving through a tunnel
    • (Illustration B) When the vehicle ahead is being towed.
    • (Illustration C) When the Nissan Kicks is following too closely and the radar sensor beam is blocked by the vehicle directly ahead.
    • (Illustration D) When driving down a steep slope or traveling on roads with sharp curves.
  • The system is designed to check sensor operation automatically within certain limits. However, it may not recognize every type of obstruction on the sensor area, including ice, snow, stickers, or similar materials. In these situations, the I-FCW system may not be able to warn the driver correctly. Check, clean, and clear the radar sensor area regularly to help maintain proper operation.
  • High surrounding noise inside or outside the vehicle may interfere with the warning chime, and the driver may not hear the alert clearly.

System temporarily unavailable

For vehicles with the 7 inch (18 cm) display

Condition A

When the radar sensor detects interference from another radar source and can no longer accurately monitor vehicles traveling ahead, the Intelligent Forward Collision Warning system in the Nissan Kicks will automatically deactivate to prevent unreliable operation.

When this occurs, the AEB with Pedestrian Detection system warning light (orange) will illuminate in the vehicle information display, indicating that the system is temporarily unavailable.

Action to take:

Once the source of interference is no longer present and normal radar operation is restored, the I-FCW system will automatically resume operation without requiring additional driver intervention.

Condition B

Severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, dense fog, snowfall, or similar environmental factors can obstruct the front radar sensor. If this happens, the I-FCW system on the Nissan Kicks will be temporarily canceled, an audible warning chime will sound, and the message "Forward Driving Aids Temporarily Disabled Front Sensor Blocked See Owner's Manual" will appear in the vehicle information display.

For vehicles with the 12.3 inch (31.2 cm) display

Action to take:

After weather conditions improve and the radar sensor is no longer blocked, the warning message should automatically disappear from the vehicle information display. If the "Forward Driving Aids Temporarily Disabled Front Sensor Blocked See Owner's Manual" message remains visible after conditions have returned to normal, the system should be inspected.

It is recommended that you have the Nissan Kicks checked by a NISSAN dealer to ensure the radar sensor and related systems are operating correctly.

Condition C

If the radar sensor located within the front bumper or emblem becomes covered by mud, dirt, snow, ice, road debris, or any other obstruction, the I-FCW system will automatically stop operating. A warning chime will sound and the message "Forward Driving Aids Temporarily Disabled Front Sensor Blocked See Owner's Manual" will be displayed in the vehicle information display.

Action to take:

If this warning appears, safely stop the Nissan Kicks, shift into the P (Park) position, and switch the engine off. Inspect the radar sensor area on the front bumper or emblem and remove any dirt, ice, snow, or debris that may be blocking the sensor. After cleaning the area, restart the engine and verify whether the warning message has cleared.

If the "Forward Driving Aids Temporarily Disabled Front Sensor Blocked See Owner's Manual" warning continues to appear after the sensor area has been cleaned, the system should be inspected by qualified service personnel.

It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for diagnosis and service.

Condition D

When driving in areas with very limited roadside structures or unusual surroundings, such as long bridges, open desert roads, snow-covered fields, or roads running alongside extended walls, the Nissan Kicks may illuminate the orange system warning light and display the "Forward Driving Aids Temporarily Disabled Front Sensor Blocked See Owner's Manual" message. In these situations, the radar sensor may have difficulty interpreting the surrounding environment accurately.

Action to take:

When normal driving conditions return and the environmental factors affecting radar operation are no longer present, reactivate the system if necessary and continue driving as normal.

NOTE:

If the AEB with Pedestrian Detection system becomes unavailable or stops operating, the Intelligent Forward Collision Warning system will also become unavailable because both systems rely on shared detection components and sensor data.

System malfunction

If the Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (I-FCW) system detects a malfunction, it will automatically deactivate to prevent unreliable operation. When this occurs, an audible chime will sound, the AEB with Pedestrian Detection warning light (orange) will illuminate, and a [Malfunction] message will be displayed in the vehicle information screen. These warnings indicate that the Nissan Kicks can no longer provide normal I-FCW functionality until the issue has been resolved.

Action to take:

If the orange warning light illuminates, safely pull the Nissan Kicks over when conditions permit, switch the engine off, and then restart the vehicle. In some situations, a temporary system error may clear after the restart procedure. If the warning light remains illuminated or the malfunction message continues to appear, the I-FCW system should be inspected by qualified service personnel. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for diagnosis and repair.

System maintenance
