The Nissan Kicks Idling Stop System is designed to help reduce unnecessary fuel consumption, lower exhaust emissions, and minimize engine noise during temporary stops. By automatically shutting off the engine when appropriate conditions are met and restarting it when driving resumes, the system contributes to improved efficiency without requiring additional driver input.
- When the vehicle comes to a complete stop, the engine may automatically shut off to conserve fuel.
- When the brake pedal is released and the driver intends to move off again, the engine automatically restarts.
WARNING
If the vehicle begins moving at approximately 1 mph (2 km/h) or more while the engine has been stopped by the Idling Stop System, such as on a downhill grade, the engine will automatically restart. Immediately apply the brake pedal to stop the vehicle and maintain control. Failure to do so could result in an accident causing serious injury or death.
CAUTION
At the end of every trip, the engine should be fully shut down and the ignition switch turned OFF. Lock the Nissan Kicks as you normally would when leaving the vehicle.
Turning the ignition switch OFF shuts down all electrical systems. Failure to do so may result in unnecessary battery discharge and could prevent normal vehicle operation.
NOTE:
The Idling Stop System may not activate under the following conditions:
- When the engine has been started but the vehicle has not yet been driven.
- When engine coolant temperature remains below the normal operating range.
- When battery charge level is insufficient.
- When battery temperature is excessively low or excessively high.
- While the vehicle is moving.
- When brake booster vacuum pressure becomes insufficient.
- When the engine hood is opened while the engine is running.
- When the engine is started with the hood already open.
- When the driver's seat belt is not fastened.
- When the driver's door is open.
- When the steering wheel is being turned or when its angle exceeds approximately 180 degrees in either direction.
- When the Idling Stop System indicator is flashing during low-speed operation.
- When the airflow control is set to the front defroster position and the fan speed is not in the OFF (0) position.
- When the front defroster function is activated.
- When the rear window defroster is operating.
- When the interior temperature of the Nissan Kicks is below approximately 59°F (15°C), unless ECO driving mode is enabled.
- When the cabin temperature exceeds approximately 90°F (32°C), unless ECO driving mode is active. If the air conditioner is switched off, the Idling Stop System may still operate.
- When the climate control fan is set to maximum speed, unless the Air Conditioning ECO customization setting has been selected and ECO driving mode is active.
- When the Idling Stop OFF switch has been activated.
- When electrical power consumption is unusually high.
- When driving at high altitudes.
- When the accelerator pedal is depressed.
- When the shift lever is positioned anywhere other than D (Drive).
- When the brake pedal is not firmly applied.
- When the vehicle is stopped on a steep incline.
NOTE:
The Idling Stop System may not activate if the Intelligent Key is not detected inside the Nissan Kicks and a door is opened or closed.
Under certain conditions, the engine will not restart simply by releasing the brake pedal while the Idling Stop System is active. Other operating conditions may still trigger an automatic restart.
- When the automatic brake hold function is active.
- When the engine hood is opened.
NOTE:
Additional time may be required before the Idling Stop System becomes available under the following conditions:
- When the battery has been discharged.
- When outside temperatures are extremely low or high.
- After battery replacement or after the battery terminals have been disconnected for an extended period and then reconnected.
NOTE:
When the Idling Stop System indicator illuminates, the engine may automatically restart if one or more of the following conditions occur:
- Brake booster vacuum pressure becomes insufficient because the brake pedal has been pressed repeatedly.
- The driver's seat belt is unfastened or the driver's door is opened.
- Battery voltage decreases due to electrical loads from vehicle systems such as headlights, climate control equipment, heaters, or accessories connected to the 12-volt power outlet.
- Vehicle speed exceeds approximately 1 mph (2 km/h).
- The rear window defroster is switched on.
- The interior temperature falls below approximately 59°F (15°C), unless ECO driving mode is enabled.
- The cabin temperature rises above approximately 90°F (32°C), unless ECO driving mode is active. When the air conditioner is switched off, the Idling Stop System may still be able to operate.
- The front defroster is activated.
- More than three minutes have passed since the Idling Stop System became active.
- The accelerator pedal is pressed.
- The steering wheel is operated, requiring the engine to restart in order to support vehicle systems and maintain proper operation.
(Steering effort may increase while this condition exists; however, this behavior is normal and does not indicate a malfunction of the Nissan Kicks.)
- When battery charge capacity is low.
- When electrical power consumption is high due to vehicle systems or connected accessories.
- When the shift lever is positioned in any range other than D (Drive).
- When the Idling Stop OFF switch has been pressed.
- When brake booster vacuum pressure becomes insufficient because the brake pedal has been depressed repeatedly.
NOTE:
The Idling Stop System may not activate if the Intelligent Key is outside the Nissan Kicks and a door is opened or closed.
NOTE:
The following condition prevents the Idling Stop System from automatically restarting the engine. In this situation, the engine must be restarted manually using the ignition switch.
- The hood is open.
The Idling Stop System is intended to improve efficiency during brief stops, such as waiting at traffic lights or in slow-moving traffic. If the vehicle will remain stationary for an extended period, it is recommended to switch the engine off completely.
When the engine is stopped by the Idling Stop System, climate-control functions such as heating, cooling, and dehumidification are temporarily suspended. If uninterrupted air conditioning performance is required, the Idling Stop System can be disabled by pressing the Idling Stop OFF switch.
Retrograde movement control function
This function is designed to help reduce vehicle rollback on inclined roads while the Idling Stop System is active. It assists during the transition from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal, helping the Nissan Kicks move away more smoothly when starting on a hill.
Idling Stop System display
The current operating status of the Idling Stop System can be monitored through the vehicle information display.

Idling Stop System ON or OFF
Whenever the Idling Stop System is activated or deactivated using the Idling Stop OFF switch, a confirmation message appears in the vehicle information display to inform the driver of the current system status.

Fuel saved and engine stop time
The fuel saved and engine stop time screen provides useful information about the operation of the Idling Stop System.
- The fuel saved value displays an estimated amount of fuel conserved whenever the engine is automatically shut down by the Idling Stop System.
- The engine stop time value indicates the cumulative duration that the engine has remained off while the Idling Stop System was active.
The total amount of fuel saved and the accumulated engine stop time can also be reviewed through the vehicle information display, allowing Nissan Kicks drivers to monitor the efficiency benefits of the system over time.

Auto start deactivation
If the engine has been stopped by the Idling Stop System and automatic restarting is unavailable, a corresponding message will appear in the vehicle information display to notify the driver.

System fault
This message is displayed whenever the Idling Stop System detects a malfunction that could affect normal operation.
If this warning appears, it is recommended that the system be inspected as soon as possible. For proper diagnosis and repair, visit a NISSAN dealer and have the Nissan Kicks checked by qualified service personnel.

Idling Stop inhibition
This indicator appears when the vehicle is stopped and one or more operating conditions prevent the Idling Stop System from automatically shutting off the engine. The display informs the driver that the system is temporarily inhibited and that automatic engine stop is currently unavailable.

Idling Stop guidance display (further depressing the brake pedal)
When the Nissan Kicks is stationary and the ISS screen is displayed in the vehicle information display, a guidance message may appear if the Idling Stop System has not activated because the brake pedal is not being pressed firmly enough.
If you want the Idling Stop System to operate, apply additional pressure to the brake pedal until the required conditions are satisfied.
The guidance message is displayed when the Fuel Saved and Engine Stop Time screen is selected in the vehicle information display.
The message will disappear automatically under the following conditions:

Idling Stop guidance display (detection of the steering operation)
When the vehicle is stopped and the ISS screen is selected in the vehicle information display, a guidance message may be displayed if steering wheel movement is detected while the Idling Stop System is attempting to operate.
The Idling Stop System may be temporarily disabled because steering input has been recognized. Since steering activity can indicate an intention to maneuver the vehicle, the system may keep the engine running to maintain normal vehicle operation.
The guidance message appears when the Fuel Saved and Engine Stop Time screen is selected in the vehicle information display.
The message will automatically disappear when one of the following conditions occurs:
- The Idling Stop System activates normally.
- The Nissan Kicks starts moving.

Idling Stop guidance display (placing priority on the air conditioner)
When the vehicle is stopped and the ISS screen is displayed, a guidance message may appear if the Idling Stop System has been temporarily suspended because climate-control operation has been given priority.
In this situation, the engine continues running to support cabin cooling, heating, or dehumidification functions and help maintain occupant comfort inside the Nissan Kicks.
The guidance message appears when the Fuel Saved and Engine Stop Time display has been selected in the vehicle information display.
The display automatically disappears under the following conditions:
- The Idling Stop System becomes active.
- The vehicle starts moving.
Idling Stop OFF switch
The Idling Stop System can be temporarily disabled by pressing the Idling Stop OFF switch. Pressing the switch again, or restarting the engine using the ignition switch, will restore normal Idling Stop System operation.
- When the Idling Stop System is turned off while the engine is running, automatic engine stop functionality is disabled and the engine will continue operating normally.
- When the Idling Stop System is switched off after the engine has already been automatically stopped, the engine may restart immediately if operating conditions permit. Once restarted, automatic engine shutdown will remain disabled for the remainder of that driving cycle.
NOTE:
- Whenever the Idling Stop OFF switch is pressed, an Idling Stop System ON or OFF status message will appear briefly in the vehicle information display to confirm the selected setting.
- The Nissan Kicks automatically resets the Idling Stop System to the ON position whenever the ignition switch is cycled from OFF back to ON.
