Honda Civic Service Manual: Rear Brake Pad Inspection

1. Vehicle Lift

Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.


2. Rear Wheel

Remove both rear wheels.


1. Rear Brake Pad - Inspection


Frequent inhalation of brake pad dust, regardless of material composition, could be hazardous to your health.

Avoid breathing dust particles.

Never use an air hose or brush to clean brake assemblies. Use an OSHA-approved vacuum cleaner.

Check the thickness (A) of the inner pad (B) and the outer pad (C). Do not include the thickness of the backing plate.


Brake pad thickness:

 

Standard:

9.0 mm (0.354 in)

 

Service limit:

1.6 mm (0.063 in)


2.

If any part of the brake pad thickness is less than the service limit, replace the brake pads as a set.


1. Rear Wheel

15mmumum

1.

Install both rear wheels.


NOTE: Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces between the brake disc or the brake drum and the inside of the wheel.
